Plastering is very tricky for newbies. It can take quite some time to learn how to plaster a wall properly, and then be able to do the job quickly is a different story. When you hire a professional plasterer, you get excellent speed and accuracy, with a much more level wall. That’s not to say that you can’t learn. Here are a few tips. Here are the five main tools you’ll need to start skimming. You will need:

  1. Trowel (preferably stainless steel)
  2. Hawk/hand board
  3. Bucket trowel
  4. Mixer
  5. Water brush

The trowel is obviously the most important tool. This is the tool that will influence your results the most. I’ve heard many of the old boys say that it doesn’t matter what trowel you use, “just get it on the wall!”. For the plaster we advise that you use British Gypsum plaster for the job – it’s a great product and can be used on multiple surfaces, making it ideal to use on your walls. Be sure to take your time and practice spreading the plaster evenly.
