Many people like the idea of having a quirky little shed with a thatched roof, one that is in keeping with their traditional property. Whilst we agree it can look extremely nice when it’s complete there are many reasons why you should choose a different roofing material.

It’s outdated

Let’s cut the chase, we all want our sheds to last and thatched roofing is a very outdated method. It requires a professional if you want the job done correctly, so it can be very expensive and it’s going to need regular checks and maintenance too.

There’s always going to be a fire risk

Your shed could be a place where you store petrol and other potentially dangerous fuels and gases. Do you really want to keep it under a straw roof?

It doesn’t last as long

Even with improved techniques, straw is never going to compete with slate, metal, tile or felt. Getting a roof re-thatched can be annoying and when that day comes you’ll wish you chose another material.
