Thousands of citizens in the UK could build their dream home under Government plans to tackle housing crisis in the country by doubling the number of self-builds. This has led to the rise of self-build properties in the UK. Currently, 11,000 new homes are self-built annually.
The current housing minister in the UK, Gavin Barwell claims that doubling the number of self-build homes every year is because of the Government’s commitment to end the housing crisis. The government has a target of 400,000 new homes built over the course of this parliament. Some experts say that 250,000 homes need to be built every year to keep up with soaring demand.
In the North, there was a 130,458 decline in home-owning households between 2015 and 2010. In London and the South, the fall was 6,747. The East and the Midlands saw a drop of about 63,881. The decline was more in the younger generations. However, there was a 681,641 n increase across the country among those aged over 65.
